Wattpad Meetup NYC

Good morning, weekend!

I just thought I would post a few pics of the Wattpad NYC meet up from a couple  of weeks ago (I am obviously super far behind in posting on this blog.)

A huge congrats to their amazing team on their Series B!

We don’t determine who or what gets published – again, it’s about the network instead of the traditional hierarchy. So, while Wattpad sometimes gets pegged as operating within the traditional publishing industry we are not a publisher. We don’t see ourselves playing in this space at all. Wattpad is actually creating a completely new digital entertainment category, one that hasn’t existed before.

Here’s my favourite example: a traditional publishing house like Penguin published 5000 books in the last 12 months, while Wattpad users uploaded 10,000 stories in just the last 12 hours! We have something for everyone – every sub-genre and every specialized interest. The diversity of human creativity is what makes Wattpad so great.

Girly Weekend, East Hampton Style!

Caitlyn and I took off to the Hampton’s for the weekend.  We’re such rebels, we had to go the weekend BEFORE Memorial Day.  My travel has been so epic the last couple of years, I forgot how nice it can be to just jump on a train for a couple of hours to get out of NYC and be somewhere amazing before we even finish our obligatory gossip catch-up.

Girly weekends are the best – highlights include validating my current obsession with Katy Perry, a mountain of BBQ Tofu from Babette’s, debates about the latest YA releases, in depth discussions on the next characters in the Treadwell Academy Novels (don’t ask, I’ll never tell!), my writing class, the good, bad and the ugly of HBO’s new series, Girls, a gallery show of gigantic cake sculptures and of course, shopping…

My future fixer-uper dream house!

The best part of the trip was finding a copy of Veronica Roth’s, Insurgent, to purchase!  I preordered it ages ago from Amazon (shame on me) and it was supposed to ship out weeks ago and it’s still on backorder (hello, isn’t that the point of a pre-order?).  So thanks to Insurgent, my train ride home won’t include post-vaca let down :)

Sometimes the best inspiration is getting away from the daily grind.

xo

PS If you haven’t read, The Rock Star’s Daughter, download it, NOW!  Because it’s amazing and because it’s the #1 free book on Amazon’s teen romance list.

PPS I bet anything that Caitlyn and I are blogging about this at the exact same time ^-^
